How many DIY head porters out here?
Was just wondering how many of you out here get into your rides more than just bolting on expensive go fast goodies?
I have a general idea of what should be done, but I didn't do much but basic massaging on my heads when I built the engine years ago.
I'm thinking I'll be pulling those heads again and upgrading the cam some.
The reason I haven't pulled 'em again yet is because it ain't broke, so I shouldn't fix it.
But any real power freak will always tear it down as many times as it takes....I feel lazy now....need to find more power...need to find it in the factory heads...they already have 1.90/1.60 valves, but I think I was too conservative with the grinder at first.
C'mon, tell me some of your port stories.

RE: How many DIY head porters out here?
When I rebuilt my Pontiac engine I should have worked on the heads a little bit but didn't. I did put in hardened exhaust seats because the unleaded fuel destroyed the cast iron seats and it's not a very smooth transition in the exhaust ports now, so one day I'll pull those off to do that. It's really hard though after an engine is all put together to take it apart again because it's a lot of work, but if done right it can really pay off with nice power gains.

Here are some practice runs I used on the heads that were on the 160k mile engine.
I bought a set of rebuilt factory heads with 1.90/1.60 stainless steel valves, stiff dual springs for lift up to .550 lift, and 68cc chambers.
1. The thermactor bump...

RE: How many DIY head porters out here?
I really wanted to port my heads, but was afraid of F***ing them up. Everyboy I asked seemed to think that if I wasn't going to do it myself, I was better off just buying better heads
