anyway you probably checked the master cylinder(which is for brakes)

did the prior owner mention if they but an aftermarket quadrant and adjuster on there...would need to be adjusted in that case. Look for something billet sticking out on the firewall. My buddy had the same problem, and kept forcing his car into gear or doing stupid stuff like running up on curbs not to use reverse. It was nice to remind him mthat he had that on there and probably just needed to adjust it. Basically five minutes later..."You were right."

Reverse grinding can usually be avoided if you put it in 5th then reverse. I knwo my car will do that sometimes. Somethign about reverse not haveing a synchro. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But since yours is having problems in other gears there might be more to the issue.

It's a bit tricky if you have a worn out, stock quadrant and pawl. First you can try pulling upward on the clutch pedal, then pushing it down hoping it will auto adjust. Mine never did though. Second, you can manually reset the position of the pawl on the quadrant. It involves looking under the dash and locating a little hook shaped bit at the bottom of your quadrant; it's like yellowed/white/brown plastic. Then push the pedal down with your left hand, and as you release the pedal, hold you finger on that plastic hook and resist the motion of the pedal coming back up. Then while doing this, push the pedal back in a tiny bit. You should hear one or two clicks if you do it right. I'd try one click first, then two if that doesn't work. Good luck.
