Default RE: Fuel pump relay problems

oh boy. on my 93 5.0 lx i got stuck on the side of the road one morning. the night before i accidentally left my sunroof open, and it poured. the whole car was soaked. about 60 miles into my commute to work the next morning i guess it came into contact with the relay, shorted it out, and left me on the side of the road. i knew the relay wastoast because i know water is detrimental to them, but after testing the relay first which was bad, and then the pump which was bad as well i knew i had to replace both, but i wondered what happen. my buddy who is 12 years younger than me, and knows even more about mechanics than myself[highest form of certification mechanic even though he doesn't practice it for a living] we came to a conclusion it shorted out the pump. he explained what may have happened which was one of his denouncements of these relays they started using in efi cars. i didn't understand it, but obviously it was the problem. after i got around to putting in the relay under the seat, and dropping the tank for the pump 3 months later it started right up.

I dont like the ****y wiring system in the 5.0 at all. Almost all of my grounds had alot resistance in them, and I spent 6 hours soldering and re-testing my work.[:'(]

A 12v+ Fused Lead and Stable Ground FTW.

Ive seen relays blaze the carpet on fire, 4 times so far.

Default RE: Fuel pump relay problems

Fellas im hoping you can help me out. I have a 5.0 in my 4runner. Its been in there for a few years but one thing thats bugging me is having the fuel pump on at all times. I am trying to hook up a relay so it primes the pump like stock. The5.0 harness has been integrated for the most part into the toyota harness. The toyota fuel pump relay works in much the same way as the 5.0 and wont work without a signal from the toyota MAF.
I tried finding a mustang fuel pump relay and pig tail at a wrecking yard this morning but gave up. So im attempting to use a regular bosch relay.
Im using pin 22 off the ecm harness tan/green. Now it primes like I want, but wontstay running after it starts for a second. Im using this diagram to try and figure it out. http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/te...nks-ign-ac.gif
I read post reply #6 and it looks like I need a signal from the dizzy to somewhere to keep it running.
Which wire do I need and where should it go ?

TIA !
