RE: Shorties vs. longtubes
longtubes increase torque more then horsepower, you we see about a 17 hp gain and 25-30 ftlbs torque if depending on your set up. ive had both and the longtubes will give you more all around even more with the laughing gas.

i dont but i can tell ya whats up. If you change from shorties to longtubes your going to LOSE hp and gain torque. Now with an already torque driven machine, just more is gonna add un needed wheel spin. In my opinion your better off with the shorties because its going to cost way to much to go with the long tubes and h pipe. From scratch, i still would have went with the shorties, but thats just my 2 cents.

RE: Shorties vs. longtubes
people who swear by shorties are those who either
a) dont know better
b) are panseys who cry about how long tubes are harder to install.
who cares if they are harder to install? going fast isnt supposed to be easy

regardless of the application, if you put longtubes and shorties on the same engine, you WILL ALWAYS make more power with the longtubes, it might not be a SOP feel, but it will make more power with longtubes

RE: Shorties vs. longtubes
There is a very small difference at the track. In the upper rpms, they are both very close.
Down low, the longer primaries aid in scavenging and produce more torque.
Longtubes are heavier and have a couple cons about them.
If you are going for every last little bit, get longtubes. Otherwise, save your money.
Longtubes do sound better in my opinion.

RE: Shorties vs. longtubes
I have had shorties and longtubes and personally don't see any down sides to them. My car is lowered and I don't have any issues with clearance, if anything it's better. When you change a clutch you have to take one header off which is no worse than fighting an H or X pipe off and on. I have the BBKs and they went on the car very easily. I felt a huge difference by the seat of my pantswhen I put mine on. If you are changing to a 351 I would wait buy longtubes for it.
