Default Reving higher than stock tach???

How do you know when your tach has increased over the 7000(i think) on the stock tach??? I've been told that when you put bigger rockers on that it raises the level of RPMs the car can handle. Like my shift light i think goes up to 13k. What kind of mods does a 5.0 need to where you can shift at say 6500 and not have to worry about blowing a head gasket or really F*** things up???

6500 is pretty high, your not there yet i can tell ya that. I bet if you had your car on a dyno you would start to fall out around 5800rpms give or take. Thats about where i would be shifting if i had your car.

Yea man thats nuts, i would never rev mine that high. If you plan on going over 6500, i would worry about the head gasket, id be worried about the hole in my oil pan made by the rod

And the needel at the very bottom would be a good sign? IF it passes the stock marker, your going to hear nosie.

ORIGINAL: 86 5.0L

your internals dictate how high you can rev
valve springs too, also how well the motor is balanced, etc. I think there are several factors.
