Default burning oil?

is it common for these cars to burn oil? I have a '93 with 86,xxx miles on it. Its a really strong car, with no leaks. So I guess I'm burning oil....its been about 500 or so miles since my last oil change and my oil light came on...so i checked and it was almost a quart low. so I added a quart and i haven't had any problems...just curious.

yes, it is very common for these cars to leak/burn oil, also what oil are you using? If your using synthetic switch now before your car starts to leak like niagra falls.

you can switch easily but make sure there are no leaks...crawl under your car and look for any signs of leaks

oh there aren't any...believe me. I replaced the oil pan gasket right when i bought the car about 3 months ago...should have done the pump while i was there...but whatever. And yeah...i have heard so many mixed things about synthetic and regular. what oil do you guys recommend. I'll probably get it from an autozone nearby, but im willing to pay top dollar.

i run mobil 1 synthetic. i had a valve cover gasket leak in my 93 lx just last february. it had only been leaking for maybe a month, but it got REALLY bad. worse than i have ever seen a valve cover gasket leak. at first it leaked like a quart a thousand, and then it was leaking a quart every 200 miles, and then a quart every 30 miles. no joke. it seized my motor oddly enough at 86k miles. other than that the original motor burned about a quart every 4k when i got it with 28k miles on it. once i got around 60 something it was burning a quart every three thousand. the new remanufactured motor is burning one every 4500, and sometimes 5500. i go 6k miles between oil changes using the mobil 1 synthetic. i was going to post a thread asking how much oil everyone burns, so i'm glad this was posted.

Amen to staying away from full synthetics on a high mileage motor. I recently switched to Royal Purple and my oil pan leak got really bad (posted problem earlier this month) and started getting leaks from places that were not leaking before, or appeared to be not leaking. 92cobra explained my car exactly...lol. Oil choices are just that, choices and opinions. Most oils today are made really well. Most guys here run Mobil1 as did I before going to RP. My .02 would be Mobil1 non synthetic or a blend maybe. I also like the Motorcraft, Valvoline and Castrol, but it is your choice dude. Sounds like what your useing is fine.

Well the thing is...I dont really like it. The car never seemed to have any oil burning issues prior to this brand. SOO...I think I might go mobil 1. My buddy recommended that to me in the first place, I just figured that a ford brand oil would be the best choice
