Default burning oil

Im looking around for a '94-'95 5.0 and it seems to me they are known to burn oil or atleast many of my friends cars throughout the years did. Wondering how I can prevent it or what to look for to know if a car is burning oil? Also are the '96-'98 4.6's better with that or worse?

A ford is going to burn oil. Some more than others for no particular reason. If you have bluish smoke from pipe's then you could have a problem like rings or valve's. I dont know about the 4.6's, but i do know the windsors are easier and cheaper to work on.

Mine uses a bit...through the pcv system and valve seals mostly. It uses about a quart/1500 miles. Allegedly, some 5.0s used this amount straight off the factory floor...past the rings and through the pcv system--possibly moreso on motors with forged pistons. I no longer worry about it; Ijust addone quart between changes, and go on about my business. The motor will probably still use this amount 100k miles from now, with the right care.
