Default broken bolt for valve cover

I have a broken bolt that i cant get out and was attempting to drill it out, but then the drill bit broke. Should i just get a different drill bit and drill the hole again or get a bigger drill bit and then tap it and use heli coil? ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!

drill slow and drill a pilot hole and then use the proper drill bit for the heli-coil kit after that and tap it then install heli-coil

Why not use an easy-out?

I did a heli coil in school, but that was 3months ago and i have learned alot of other things since then so i need a refresher. I drill the hole out bigger for the heli-coil, but i can use the same size bolt that was in there previously right.

yes, you drill out the hole with the right sized bit - it will pretty much remove any traces of old threads. then you tap the hole with a helicoil tap and screw in the insert which resizes the hole back to the original size. dont forget to knock out the little tang at the bottom of the insert once installed, you can just stick anything down in there and give it a quick whack, then use an airgun to blow it out of the hole.
