Default Help with a new stang

Okay im buying a new stang

88GT 5speed hatch...

Few Questions..

I had my cousin drive it since i ahve driven AOD my whole life, he said the clutch grabbed very low... we asked the guy if it had an aftermarket adustable cable he said no, so what would make it grab so low...

Guy said that last time he had it out and put it in 4th gear it locked up on him and he was stuck in 4th... what can cause this? if the tranny is garbage no prob i got a good t-5 in my room...

also my cousin said while he was playing in first gear that he noticed that up top in the rpms the car kinda died... like it lost power... thinking maybe the clutch with the other two problems...

lastly when your movign and only when your moving an annoying squeak that gets louder and faster with acceleration starts... it comes from the gauge cluster, think maybe a cable is loose and the gear is wobbling around? all the gauges work but the rpms and speedo are bouncy...

speedo would be the cable behind the dash or the end that connects to the trans. if the clutch cable is real loose try adjusting it. the 4thgear getting stuck could be the syncros in the trans not sure so dont quote me and the tach i am not sure. hopefully some of this will help you

You don't know how to drive stick?[&:] haha, jk.How low does the clutch grab? The 4th gear problem basically means the tranny is about toast. Good thing you have another one in your room . The loosing power thing, could be as simple as cap, rotor, plugs. My car was a dog when i got it up top also. Turned out to be the carb, along with the cap and rotor being beyond bad. The squeak thing, sounds like a loose/andor not oiledspeedo cable. Pretty easy fix. My speedo bounces a little also at really low speeds, so idk there.

On the transmission, it could have the wrong fluid in it or syncronizer/slider problem.

ORIGINAL: 92GreyGT

On the transmission, it could have the wrong fluid in it or syncronizer/slider problem.
And if that's the case just put in your other one. I doubt the fluid would make it stay stuck in a gear.

most likely need a new speedo and or cable and new tach....and a slider may be binding due to wear and as for the clutch pedal..the cable may be stretched...try pulling up on the pedal to adjust the self adjusting clutch mechanism

i havn't driven stick in a while so i didn't wanna start ****in **** up on the car and i kno my cousin is an avid 5speed driver (he has a 93GT)

said it locked on him once and he hasn't taken it to 4th since...

if it were to get stuck on me how do i get it out? or does the tranny decide this?

The squeaking could also be your pilot bearing. If so, it's a hard noise to tell where the hell it's coming from. If you rest your foot on the clutch lightly (read: just enough to move the pedal about 1/16", not enough to affect anything) and the squeak goes away, that's your problem. From my understanding, it's a very common ailment (mine does it too). The revs falling off at the top end could be a timing issue. The bouncy speedo is another common problem. From my understanding (and it's very likely I'm wrong on this one) it's an issue with the magnets inside the speedo. As far as the tranny, I don't know what to tell you about that. You may have the wrong tranny fluid in it, or you may just need to replace it. Since you said you have another T-5, you shouldn't have much trouble. It'sprobablythe easiest transmission change I've ever done. Hope this helps.
