What Gears should i get

RE: What Gears should i get
Well, this was a mom and pop shop, and the guy usually does good work. He was just really busy, and for some reason felt rushed with my car even though I gave him two days and would have given him all the time he needed. I did only pay $250 for gear install + bearing install though, and he said "the book" listed $550 just for gears. I haven't really driven the car much, but I figure I'll drive it a little more and decide whether I want to get him to reinstall them, and he probably would but I figure he'd probably mess them up again.
Thanks for telling me that whine = premature wear. My brother drives a 96 Trans Am and it had gears installed by the previous owner, and they whine pretty bad and seem to make other noises..

1) stepping up is pointless unless you go AT LEAST 2 full sets
2) mileage drops as soon as you start bumping
3) you need to pick one, gas saver or quicker car
i always say 4.10's, they are the best for 1/4 mile, you will raise rpm's by roughly 1000, and both of my 5-speed cars still got 20+ mpg w/ them
if you go less, you will see less all the way around, mpg and performance both, so i say go big or keep it stock, going for 3.73 instead of will save you 250 rpms at any given speed, doesn't gain much mileage, loses much needed performance
door tag under "ax" for original gears
m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27
