Default Cold Air Intake

Is it worth putting in a cold air intake? What are the best brands for the most horsepower and best looking. I like the looks of the chrome ones. They look sweet when you open up the hood.

chrome would do you no good at all, they heat up from the engine bay and the air coming in would be hotter than if you just left your stock air box on. If you want just the looks, then go for it, if you want performance, then buy a plastic kit or make your own. Cold air intake is said to be worth 5 - 8 hp (basically it will give you that "just started and its cold outside"performance). <edited><editID>mdvaldosta</editID><editDate>37897.7453935185</editDate></edited>

BBK says their chrome cold air induction gives 10-14 extra horses.

I have a chrome MAC on mine and I felt a difference when I installed it. Yea the chrome ones look awsome. I am sure the plastic ones do better.

Yea the chrome ones do look alot better, and with a high flow air filter like a k&amp;n you will flow more air, but the air will get hot under the hood with a metal tube and after the car warms up ypu might as well have stock induction with a k&amp;n. I am sure it is still better than stock I guess, but I know the plastic ones keep the air much cooler.

Hell yeah they make a difference. I put one on my car recently (Moroso CAI) and I could tell a HUGE difference. I got the most possbile HP gain it could offer... It was like 2 different cars. But it will vary, and it's different for every car... depends on mods, motor condition and environment. Go buy one... I know they are over priced but I would have paid $175 for the increase I got. (def. go with black plastic, stay away from the chrome BBK... it's all show - no go. Go with the Moroso, mine was $109.00)

Go for a ceramic coat CAI. You get the look and the performance. I just picked up a WMSwww.wmsracing.comVelocity tube for my '94. (i realize its Canadian but thes%^t works) It made a noticable seat of your pants diffference. My kit however, only goes from air intake to MAF. I would recommend a kit that goes from air intake to TB. More air =More Power. </P>

als o most of them do have a much better path for air , its small but being smooth as oposed to the rubber one with all those waves to make it flexable does not help ,<IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0">

no offense but that chrome bulls**t isnt gunna make that big of a deal, i've had both and they are only adding like 5-15 horses depending on where u live anyways, and u gotta remember peeps...if the air is already cold(er) where u live, of course ur gunna get more than someone like me whos in florida, i didnt notice a diff in mine. but i know they help a little, i guess if u wanna get that extra 6 horses out of the plastic one, go ahead...but if u think ur gunna feel a 10 or even 20 horse diff on ur car, thenur stupid...i could barely feel the 55 my heads added...so dont exagerate *L* <IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0"></P>
