MAF is messed up

just a question, is a MAF needed for a engine to run without damaging the motor? I dont have emissions in my county so I dont have to worry about that.

Without it, how else would you meter the air your engine is breathing? Smog equipment or not, unless you convert to speed density, you need it.

Well because when I scan my car it says MAF but if thats messed up then would the car run?

It can still run even if it's messed up. I wouldn't try driving the car without one.

That car should run without a MAF, but that is in no way a good idea since the computer uses the MAF to adjust the fuel injectors for varying conditions and the like. Without it the computer should go into "limp-mode" and the enginewill run, but probably not very well.
