RE: performance ? just for laughs
right before i tore down my first 302 in my II because it sounded like it was going to exlpode, i did one last trip around the block and absolutely ROASTED the tires. when i tore it down i found completely wiped lopes on 2 cylinders. so, running like a V6 with extra cylinders dragging it down it was still fast

.028 ring gap won't really make a noticle difference in terms of power, maybe lose 3-5 or thereabouts. Combustion occurs so rapidly under such a high pressure that there's almost no time for it to leak past even a large ring gap. And larger gaps like that are common on pistons with high top compression rings that are setup for boost/nitrous applications. Busted pistons on the other hand....so you had a 5 cylinder. Works for Volvo.

before i rebuilt my car, how much power and how good do you think it ran with .028" ring gap and three busted pistons?
