Default what bore?

what would be the best bore for my 5.0?
its a carbed 85 5.0 with 83000 miles on it.

take it to the machine shop...it may just need a hone ..if not then standard would be .030

It would probably only need a hone if its an 80K block that was taken care of.

If you bore it, it will give you a little more compression but then you would have to buy 0.030 over pistons. Boring my block 0.030 over took my compression from 12.0.1 to 12.2.1, not much but its some.

If car is still on a carb (hope so) there could be some egg shaped wear in the cylinders.
If that is the case then .030 is the next overbore size.
That would make it a 306..........

hes redoing everything for me including the entire engine rebuild for 1200. i was told it would be another 50-75 horespower with a more aggresive cam.

boring an engine cylinder doesnt really add any power, so 4.000 but if you have to .030 over is second best

no not just the cam performance heads, pistons,bearings alot of other stuff.
ill call him and get a list. its a performance kit from nelson racing i believe? not100% sure what brand but i think he said nelson?
