harmonic balancer on
i was talkin with some guys and one mentions that the crankpulley has a harmonic balancer that is not replaced with aftermarket pulleys and could mess up the motor. i did not really catch the whole story but i figured i would run this by an audience for input. they may have been talking about a supra...i was tired<IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">

Due to a more frequent power (combustion) stroke in an 8 cylinder, the wear on the main bearings would likely be decreased if not totally diminished (compared to a 4 cyl.) by the lack of a damper. I have notpersonally experiencedthis but I have torn down an engine and this was the result from an undamped pulley. Again- this was a 4cyl, not an 8 cyl.</P><edited><editID>4HoleKraut</editID><editDate>37905.6524189815</editDate></edited>

I guess I wasn't paying attention as well as I should have, I understood what he said as saying that if you don't replace your balancer when you put aftermarket pulleys you could mess up your motor. I have yet to see a crank pulley that doubled as a harmonic balancer on a 5.0. As far as other engines, if the balancer is part of the crank pully, well then that kit would come with the balancer.</P>
