advancing the timing allows spark delivery to occur sooner so that the cumbustion process can take place sooner and be done at the proper time..if the cumbustion process is done at the optimal time no fuel is wasted and optimal power can be produced..this is a quick way to explain it without all the technical jargin.......to advance the timing..pull your spout connector and mark your balancer or clean the rust off so you can see the marks.... start the car and loosen dizzy bolt and point a timing light down at the balancer and pointer and rotate the dizzy until the pointer lines up with no more than about 14 degrees btdc stock setting is 10 degrees and at 14 you may want to run premium fuel when finished setting timing sighten dizzy bolt back down shut car off and reinstall spout connector and drive away to fun!!

RE: adjusting the timing?
On the 94-94's the spout connector is on the passanger side fender right next to the air intake... Sometimes it falls down under the intake, so you might have to search around a little.
On the Fox's the connector is right on the dizzy itself.
