Default Can I run without a mid-pipe?

What would happen if a ran my car without a midpipe? Just two straight 2.5in pipes coming off each of my shorty headers into mufflers.Would it sound good? Would it be safe to drive like that?

+1 to the crap sound and you'll more than likely lose some power
