Aren't the 86's forged pistons? I think the compression is higher due to no valve reliefs though. 125 is fine on most any motor, but you will need to do some tuning to prevent detonation.

Thanks again T5 for your insightful commentation. Anyway, I agree that with the forged pistons will hold up well, but 125 is still pretty high taking into account the fact that your engine may have a lot of miles on it, but then again I dont know all you've done to it. Nitrous wont just affect your block and bottom end if all the other parts are getting older.

Before i built my new my motor, i had an 86 wiith the true forged flat tops and the heads with the heart shaped valves(they suck). But i started with a 125 shot and it handled it with ease for atleast 20 runs at the track. After ahwile i decided it was time to build a motor with Aluminum heads and a bulletproof bottom end to hold to the nitrous.(It now holds up to a supercharger). So i decided to jet the nitrous up to a 225 shot for the motor's grand finale. Surprisingly enough it held up first run on the track. The second run i threw a rod and the block is no more. So yes in my opinion a 125 shot should be fine on that block.<edited><editID>84stang</editID><editDate>37901.0517939815</editDate></edited>

a 125 shot is a good choice for you. if you want to be safe about it get a retard box for it to prevent detonation. other than that you should be safe.

If u go the 125 shot use two steps colder than stock plugs. Ford has them. And retard your timing accordingly. experiment with 75 then move up.</P>
