CAM IT!

RE: CAM IT!
The best cam would be one tailored to the specific combination you have installed to provide you with the performance goals you are expecting...... which are??? .... or is it just a sound thing? .... if it's performance and/or driveability you're looking for.... you may want to check this custom alternative.....

Ed Curtis @ www.flowtechinduction.com.
The sound of a camshaft can change from car to car, because of so many variables. The top-end pieces used, compression, idle speed, exhaust, etc.
Ed sells the AFR heads and has them in stock, like the ones you have. He will get you the proper spec'd springs to go with the custom camshaft.
I had great luck with him. He can get you a camshaft designed for mild or all the way up to wild.

RE: CAM IT!
why go with
165s most people only about 290 to 300 rwhp why not step it up with some 185s maybe have a better result and as for a cam like some people here suggested go with a custom cam that is designed for your car

RE: CAM IT!
AFR 185 heads are great, but the intake valve is larger. This typically creates a piston to valve clearance issue with stock pistons.
A custom camshaft grinder can get them to clear.
I prefer, to put AFR 185cc heads on a bit higher compression 302-306, other than stock compression.
I like the AFR 165cc (1.90" valve) for stock compression 302-306 cars. It gives the custom cam grinder more room to play with in designing the camshaft, instead of having to factor in the larger 185cc valve.
