Default New Car (Batterie Issue's) Please Help -.!!!!

Ok so i bought a new 1993 Mustang GT 5.0, Nice car just having a headache right now !!!

Batterie light comes on , The guy that i bought the car from said when he put the new battery 1 week ago he had to put new battery terminals, so when he did that he got confused on the POSITIVE+ & NEGATIVE- . Wind up switch the cable's and he said he seen smoke from the fender wall?

if you have a multimeter you can check for the proper level of charging voltage at the battery....if the alt is working.. you should see at least 13.8 volts charging and amperage should vary depending on the load induced at the time of your measurement.....I'd turn on all the lights radio and a/c so you know that a measurable amount of current in amps can be seen......but if with a load on the system if you have close to 0 or - amperage draw...battery is being discharged/alt not working..........the charge wire for the alt is usually on the side of the selonoid that goes to the battery or on the pos batt post.....mine is rewired like such cause I have a one wire hook up alt that is self exciting
