Buying used gears

RE: Buying used gears
ORIGINAL: PRO50SC
I have used 3.73's in mine, no noise. No problems. I put the 3.55's that were in my car in my wifes car, quiet as a mouse.

You should be able to clearly see a problem on used gears. No broken or chipped teeth. The wear pattern if you can see one, should be in the middle of the gears. Seriously, why spend 150-200 bux on gears if you can get a decent used set for cheap. JMO though. To me, it depends on the part. You always take a chance when buying used parts.

RE: Buying used gears
The brand of gears go a long way too. Richmond is a good quality gear but I have had problems setting them without noise. If they are used FRPP gears I wouldn't worry. As far as changing the bearings, most times the bearings you buy aren't as good as what is in the car. Inspect what you have and if they are smooth and the races aren't pitted and appear smooth leave what you have in there, just my opinion.
