Default Buying used gears

Hello all,

I am going to buy a set of used 3.73 gears in excellent shape for about $50 and I was just wondering do I need to buy a bearing set.

My 91 Gt is a 5 speed and has 120K.

Thanks I have been learning a lot from this forum.

It wouldn't hurt. However, if you are not having any problems or noise, you could get away w/o replacing them.

How much does it cost for a bearing set? About $100.

Thanks,

I am not sure about the miles on them. They said they are in excellent condition.

Maybe I shouldn't chance it and buy new ones. Just now to pick between 3.73 or 4.10 for my weekend car.

I will only buy used gears if they were factory installed to begin with, I've heard that installing used gears can cause lots of noise.

I have used 3.73's in mine, no noise. No problems. I put the 3.55's that were in my car in my wifes car, quiet as a mouse.

That's because your an awesome mechanic pro. j/k. I would not buy used gears but that's me. But even new gears will whine if not installed correctly, i know from experience lol. If it was me and you only plan on doing this once, go ahead and change the bearings.
