CAM Shim Question
A summit guy i talked to today about my e303 cam and stock 302 motor and heads with pedistal rockers told all i need is the FMS-shim kit and trick flow value springs TFS-2500100 and i would be fine..
Or i could get the Crane adjustable rocker kit with trick flow rollor rocker 1.7 with value springs i would rather get the shims and value springs for now till i get more money..
what is your guys thoughts about this is this guy no what he's talking about
P.S i just read a page on the internet about the stock pedistal rockers could only withstand no more than 480 lift do you guys believe this because i wanted to get the shim kit on my stock pedistal rockers..

RE: CAM Shim Question
no more than 480 lift ehh??? hmmmm guess I'm screwed..or not!!!!...antway..you'll be fine...you may or may not need the shim kit..if the correct preload and torqur are reached at the proper time then no shimkit may be needed but best to have it on hand just in case

RE: CAM Shim Question
oh the article is about the stock rockers.. I thought you were talking about pedastal roller rockers.....but I have seen people run the f-cam with stock rockers...but you'll need to clearance them to clear the larger retainers for the upgraded springs....but why waste the effort on stocke rockers..just buy a set of roller rockers from the get go and be done with itstock parts = stock performance

RE: CAM Shim Question
if you don't know what preload is or refers to...or how to check/set valvetrain geometry..such as checking for proper length pushrods..best let a machine shop do it......setting preload refers to first having the cylinder with the valves you are working on rolled up to tdc and then you can set preload and adjust rockers on both the intake and exhaust of that cylinder and while lightly spinning the pushrod you tighten down the pedastal bolt and when a slight resistance /drag is felt on the bush rod.. from that point you must reach 22-25 ft lbs torque in less than 1/2 to 1 turn.....if it takes more than you shim it...this is called setting the preload.....if you are working with roller rockers you also need to set/ check push rod length so as to set the roller tip travel to remain in the center 1/3 of the stem through the full length of travel while opening and closing the valve
