Default Speedometer correction - more options?

Have a 92 LX 5.0 convertiblewith the T5 transmission. Rear end changed to 3.73. From what I have been able to determine, Ford changed the transmision drive gear from 7 tooth to 8 tooth in 90 and as a result, there is no good option for correcting the speedometer without opening the transmission and replacing the 8 tooth drive gear with a 7 tooth drive gear. I currently have a 21 tooth driven gear (red) but that still makes my speedometer read about 10-15% high. I have seen a non OEM 23 tooth gear advertised but from what I have seen on this forum, it will not last long.

What am I missing? Is there another option other than big bucks on an inline gear adapter?

Paul

you remove the tailshaft housing off the tranny and swap drive gears.... not exactly rocket science!

just swap drive gear on output shaft....it'll be a little tricky to do it in the car but can be done

Thanks. The instructions I saw made it a lot more complicated than just pulling the tailshaft housing off while still installed.

90-95 tranny takes a yellow drive gear and red driven gear to properly sorrect for 3.73's
