Default New 5.0, Mod list and suggesti

Hello all,

Just posted this on new members but I figure its more appropriate here in 5.0 land.

I just picked up a 95 GT conv w/ 91K delicate miles (1 owner with my same last name-brother), just installed new greasable ujoints, poly tranny mount, all new fluids, and filters. Ihave done a bunch of work on it to correct a driveline problem. Now that that is solved I've got a boatload of parts coming to make her "driveable." Runs fine now and is totally stock which means it is undriveable to me.

1st phase is wheels (AFS cobra R's 17x8 and 17X10.5),tires (245 45/275 40)suspension- springs (Eibach pro),shocks (KYB AGX),urethane bushings, caster/camber, offset rack bushings, Kmember brace (Maximum Motorsports)

2nd phase- short throw shifter, control arms, subframe connectors, pan hard bar, 13 inch front brakes, maybe 3.55's

3rd phase Supercharger, cat back exhaust, chip

Phase 1 is on route and due for install upon arrival-barring early snow in the mid east, phase 2 waits for another paycheck : )

Anyone have comments as to my expected mods, the order of mods, orrecommendations for name brands of future purchases listed above? I've been leaning towards the Vortech S/C.

Thanks, Andy

i would build the motor before you charge it. first because of longevity. if you take the time to build a stout bottom end your motor will last longer plus it will put up with the added abuse of say nitrous. second if you have a free flowing motor say goods intake exhaust and heads you will get more power with less boost. if you pick the right engine parts you should be able to get just as much power without charging it. then with a supercharger on top of that wow.

I dont mean to be a dope. Ive read a bit regarding turbocharging, but Im still unsure what it means to have a stoud bottom end, and how one can achieve that if its not there already. By that I mean what parts require the most attention.. cause what my limited knowledge and overactive imagination is showing me is someone bolting a superthick oilpan to their not so stoud bottom engine end.

Yeah I was wondering about the bottom end. I wasn't planning on running any monster boost, 8-12# max. And I thought a lot of people ran that on the 5.0 without much trouble. I have considered intakes, heads and headers but I always hate to tear up a solid running engine. That's why I'm thinking of a S/C with low boost. The main purpose of the car is to make it respectable in terms of speed and handling, not really intended for the drag strip and I have no desireto addNoX. But definately appreciate the feedback, keep it coming!

Amethral- usually firming up the bottom end would involve a beefier crankshaft, main bearings and sometimes con rods along with having it balanced. So I don't think a superthick oilpan would help you much : ) A higher capacity oil pan might be an option for fresher oil due to capacity.

Ah, crankshaft and bearings I can compute. I think youre right to go with the S/C for your application. I may end up copying manyof your mods some time later

Hey, I heard that using urethane bushings can make the ride stiffer and that they take away from the life of the car frame cause theyre so unforgiving. Is that just some silly wife's tale or something?

The torque boxes are weak and so is the overall body. Subframe connectors will cure that.

I've seen torque box repair kits but nothing for reinforcements, why is that? Are they one and the same.

MD why'd you go with the Vortech over the Pro Charger? I'm trying to decide which way to go, If I go Pro Charger I'll have to go intercooled just because.

Whoo hooo. UPS brought me presents today 4 shiny chrome Cobr R's sweetness!
