How can you tell what year you motor is? I have a 91 lx 5.0 and the guy I bought it from said that it is not the original motor and That it has less than 40,000 miles on it.

What heads are on it? If they are heads from whatever the motor came from you can tell, there will be a serial number like E7TE, It will be under the valve covers. go to google and type in Ford serial numbers or casting numbers and there will be a few sites to tell you what they mean

that wouldnt help much cuz the E7 heads were used on way more than one year of motor...like late 80s ( cant remember the exact year) to 95 all used the E7 heads...there should be a serial number on the block tho
