I finally found the problem. After I checked resistance on all the fusible links and found that they were good i decided to check the resistance on the wires from the alternator to the solenoid. An eye terminal that the previous owner had added to the green wire from the alternator had come loose. I put on a new terminal and now everything works great. Thanks for all the help.

Good job, sometimes it just takes a quick inspection to find out the stupid problems . This is the reason we said to check all of your grounds for something loose of corroded.
