internals replacements for stock 302
Why can't I find any rotating assemblies for the stock displacment? Everything I've seen is all for larger engines (331, 347) and stroker kits.
I don't really want to up the displacement. The stock 5.0L size is fine for me. All I'm looking for is strong replacement parts for the internals so nothing breaks when I strap on a turbo kit in the future. A kit would be preferable as opposed to picking out each piece one at a time. I'd hate to have the shop tell me I don't have the right parts.
I'm making my little wish-list for the engine build-up and have my H/C/I picked out. I'm hoping to get the bottom end stuff at the same time and get it all built at once.
Hopefully not a stupid question; I'm just trying to learn and plan things out ahead, before I start spending stupid amounts of money.
Thanks!!

well if ur taking everything out then it usually that means your getting the block hot tanked and machined and what not. even if ur just rebuilding most people get the cylinder walls re honed and bored .030 over which there are plenty of pistons to match for. Most people who rebuild and get the block taken care of dont end up with exactly 302

Stock crank will take a lot of abuse, so all you'd really need are rods and pistons. The block will fail before the crank as long as everything is machined properly.

yea actually your not alone...ive been wondering the samething b/c i might need to put in new rings on my motor and i was wondering about puttin in new rods and pistons as well. but i was wanting to keep mine a 302 as well.

My question would of course be, if you are going to go through the process of rebuilding the motor, why not jump up to a little more displacement. You can buy a cast crank rotating assembly for a 306 or 331 at really reasonable prices. For what little more you will spend there will be a pretty good difference, especially when you go to throw the hairdryer on there.
Just my .02, and if you cannot find stock replacement parts for 302's you're not looking, they are all over the place, I just GAVE away an entire stock motor and all the parts.....GAVE away.

i also have had the same problem .. i have a 93 so i was thinking of eventually switching to the forged pistons .. but i have never seen stock pistons for sale new anywhere ....

putting brand new 4.000 pistons in a well seasoned stock bore block is not reccommended...why?? cause there will be cylinder taper and wear and you'll be defeating the purpose of a rebuild...I'd have the block bored to .030 and you buy the pistons before the bore process so each piston can be measured and each cylinder bored accordingly

Probe 306 engine kit p/n# 11101-GT, Forged pistons, Forged I beam rods, and cast crank. This is a .030 kit but Probe does make standard 4.00" slugs if you don't need to bore. The kit will cost you about $799 with shipping from www.FordStrokers.com It is not listed on the site but you can contact Jim through the sight and he can get it for you. Coast High Performance also carries it but I think they sell it for $849. I bought one fromJim about a year ago, it will need to be balance though.
However, hindsight being 20/20, I would have done a 347. The parts comparison is very minimal and the machining is completely the same if you do the clearancing yorself. The added cubes make up for the mininmal cost difference. The kits come with detailed instructions on how to clearance the block for a stroker and it is realy simple if you can read and follow instructions. Just think about it before you deside to pass up on the extra cubes.

IF you pull the whole motor apart just to keep it a 302 then your basicly wasting your time, you might aswell upgrading seeing as its fully taken apart? do it the right way once so you dont have to do it again. just my .02

RE: internals replacements for stock 302
Okay, I'm starting to get swayed towards upping the displacment. So here's my next question; how do I know what rotating assembly will work in my block? ['91 5.0L, fyi]
For example, looking at Jegs.com, I see a Scat assembly for a SB Ford that says 347 Cubic inch. [942-1-94165BE]Does that mean that this kit will result in a final displacement of 347, or its for an engine that is 347 stock? i.e. would this kit work for me? Could I simply buy it, hand it over to the shop, and not require anything more (for the bottom end)?
Thanks for all the advice so far, btw. Much appreciated.
