Thermo Housing Leaking??
My buddy replaced his Thermo.....and it is leaking a lot!
I am going ot go over there after work to check it out, but I was wondering if you guys have any ideas??
I know the torque specs are 15-20lbs.......so I think he over-torqued it. I asked him if there is any corrosion on it and he said no.......what else could it be?
I am going to cut a new gasket with some gasket material I have, and then goop it up with some gasket sealant. Then I am going to torque it properly to the right specs..........am I missing anything??
I just don't understand what he could of done...it is not that hard to change a thermo?!?

RE: Thermo Housing Leaking??
more then likely the thermostate dropped down from where it was suppose to be and is pinched in between the housing and the mounting surface. i just replaced mine last week and i had the same problem. i stuck a piece of wire down threw the housing and held the thermostate up while i tightened the bolts and it didnt leak at all. try that and see if it works.

RE: Thermo Housing Leaking??
I just replaced my thermostat last week. The Ford design is a little tricky, so here is what i did:
-seal the thermostat to the housing with RTV (Blue Permatex)
-then seal the gasket to the housing
- wait about 20-30 minutes for the sealant to set a little bit and reattach the housing
Keep in mind that the directions on the RTV say that it takes 24 hours for the RTV to fully cure. I don't think you need to wait that long as you shouldn't be using a whole lot here, but its up to you. Good luck!

f the torque spec!! just tighten it so it's tight!! and make sure the housing isn't warped and that he used sealant with the gasket and upper clamp is tightened sufficiently
