RE: cars not starting....lets see whos good....
to make it even easier, the dampner should be pointing at 10, (the 10 that is to the left of zero, not the right).
The ROTOR BUTTON should be pointing at the number one plug wire.
Previously you just had it pointing to 0 and the rotor pointing to the number one wire.
now, you have it pointing to 10 * btdc before TOP DEAD CENTER and the rotor button pointing to the number 1 plug wire.
You just advanced the timing, which is what the motor wants to start

RE: cars not starting....lets see whos good....
I thought I knew how to put a distributor in but now after reading all that Im confused LOL...
either its a timing problem or its that fancy choke you just put on..If your choke is closed while your trying to start it try to put a screwdriver in it to hold it open and try to start it a big enough screwdriver that it wont fall down the intake mind you...
if it still wont start with the choke open then its the distributor...its off or 90* out

RE: cars not starting....lets see whos good....
alright so it ended up being the timing. It was actually too far ahead, so i pushed it back some and bam it fired up, what a great feeling. Never take starting an engine and it firing up for granted. Anyways...
Got a new questions...the friction point on the clutch is really high, is there any way to lower the friction point?
Also the hazard lights are like blinking really slow, and the blinkers just dimmly turn on and dont blink? Not sure what the problem is there, but any wild guesses as to where to look first, because i cant recall touching anything electrical with the blinkers and whatnot?

One, you may also have too much fuel going into the engine. I have been having a very similiar problem as yourself but now I am at the point were it runs but not to its potential. I think my balancer is spun a little because I have been toying with mine and stabbed it multiple times and couldn't get it exact so I pull off the timing cover to make sure the timing marks are correct to find out that when they are lined up it was about 2 teeth or so off. So it was firing when the exhaust was opening on the cylinder before the other cylinder that is suppsoed to be firing causing my headers to glow, and flames to shoot out of the egr ports on the heads that I don't have plugged[&:](yes I know I need to plug them). Gonne put it back together tomorrow and fire her up to double check it.
Stab it to where you think it is supposed to be and be sure the vac advance is off and plugged and see what happens.
