I have an intake manifold laying around that I'm considering to use for the build. It's a 289/302 manifold, i believe it has "offenhauser" written on it, and it is set up for two carburetors, and has two four-barrel Carter carbs sitting on top (I believe 450 cfm a piece). Is it worth rebuilding these two carbs and using this set up?
wow 2 4's on a 302...kinda overkill and more so for the look even if they are only 450's a piece

Lol, yeah I figured it was too much, but figured since I alreadyhad it, maybe it would still be ok to use. It has the vacuum secondary, but do you think it would hurt me?

I also have a 600 cfm Holley four barrel laying around, I would just need a intake for it.

I would go with more of a single 4 set up...I had a friend with the 2 4 set up and it didn't really provide more power just looks

Well I know they wouldn't add more power since the engine wouldn't be built enough to take advantage of the flow. If I could use them without losing a lot of power though, then I would rather do that because it looks cool and I wouldn't have to buy a manifold.

I guess it will be a mild build. Things have changed so I will probably have it bored to .040" over (so I guess it will be a 308)with some high compression pistons. It already has a cam, which I believe is a Crane fire ball. I'm going to wait and look for some decent heads and port them, and the exhaust would be free flowing with long tubes. If I topped it with the Offy intake & 2-4's, would that work? Or would there stillbe power to be had with less carburetion?

Also, what is a good streetable compression ratio that can be use with 93 octane?

The only 351w heads worth using are 69-70. World castings makes some decent priced iron heads too. You might look for a progressive linkage setup for the 2x4 intake. That way you only run off one carb till you jump on it.

Compression ratio with pump gas will depend on the cam alot. 9.5-9.8 should be safe, you cant get 93 octane everywhere. Here in AZ you can only get 91.

I run 11.1 compression safely with 93 octane. Biggest factor with running that kind of compression is timing, you dont want it high.
