Mustang won't start

Mustang won't start
Okay, so my mustang has been parked in my garage the past couple of weeks due to bad wires that got repaired on my wiring harness..
My car was originally driving and it started jerkin around and just quit on me and it wouldnt start back up.
Lucky for me there was a mechanic that looked at my car right after it happend. He cleaned off the cap and rotor and told me it looked bad, but wasnt quite sure. he got it running, but it died 20 feet later, so i had it towed to my house.
Well me and my brother fixed some wires that looked bad. and it started up afterwards with no hesitation, 4-5 times. I was restoring my aircleaner, so i finished sanding it down and put it on, tried to start it, but it wouldnt start.
We looked at it again and can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it.
I looked at the cap and rotor, they don't look too bad, but they don't look great either.
My question is could it be a bad cap and rotor, or is it something completely different.
I'm newer to cars as im only 16...
I had the ignition module tested and it tested fine, as well as the battery.
I would really appreciate some help here, i wanna drive my mustang again!!

RE: Mustang won't start
Tried wiggling them, and nothing changed, also checked to make sure im getting voltage from the coil with a multimeter..
its getting 4-5 volts from the coil.
uhhh nope i havn't checked the timing....
can i do that? or would i need to take it somewhere?
i'm probably going to buy a new cap and rotor tomorrow just cause the one thats on there isn't bad..
But i do appreciate the help...
if you can think of anything else that could be wrong that would greatly be apprecaited
thanks for the replies!!!

whooooooooooooow there......slow down.....check timing??wtf?? how bout check for spark first and check for fuel!!! when a car won't start expecially carb and efi three things needed are spark, fuel and compression.......do you have spark??? = check via an in line spark checker or a used spark plug will work ...and spary ether in the t/b or carb whatever set up you have and see if it'll fire up briefly..if not check for spark ....if it fires on ether than it's a fuel prob

RE: Mustang won't start
Alright ill try those first thing in the morning!!
originally it wasn't getting spark.
but after we repaired the wires, it started up with no problems.. till i put the aircleaner back on =/ i havnt checked for spark afterwards, but i will check that tomorrow.
i can smell fuel when i try to start it, but i will try the ether just to make sure.
thanks for the tips!!
EDIT - I just tried the ether, no luck...

RE: Mustang won't start
okay so find a used spark plug and pull a wire down by heads and install it in the boot and ground out electrode and crank car..look for spark............if none pull the wire off the cap that is for the coil and check for spark again the same way!! we are checking now to see if spark is arriving to cap if it is replace cap and rotor and retest...go to this point and report

Well i went ahead and installed a msd cap and rotor, no luck either.
i cant check for spark cause the only person home is still asleep.
I did find another wire that looks pretty worn out... so i might fix that here in a little bit.
Is there anything else it could be?
im completly clueless now =/
