Default oil in intake

Hello,

Ive been having problems with my 90lx 5.0 for a little bit. Its been backfiring into the intake when I hit the gas pedal. Did the CEL self test, and replaced what was bad. Still running like crap, I started tracing the vacuum lines and found a couple leaks. I decided to pull the upper intake off to inspect the gasket for leaks and found that there is engine oil on rear 2 intakes. Theres not alot, but I had to clean the gasket and lower intake with a rag. Im guessing that I need a new motor, or do I have a head gasket leak?

thanks for your help

Tom

I'm guessing you are troubleshooting it all wrong!!![&:]....number 1 if it is popping into the intake....you either have a misfire or a timing issue and or noticable lack of power....if it does have a lack of power and run a little rough a burnt intake valve could cause such symptoms to.. asimple cylinder leakage test or compression test will verify engine internal integrity....... before tearing a motor apart find the prob.. if you don't you could end up throwing good money after bad and have the same issue after engine replacement..... a bad tps could cause such... if your car is Maf equipped a dirty maf could cause such too and or a weak fuel pump and or clogged filter....there are just to many things to check.. I'd take it to a shop..you many find out that'll save you money inn the long run

Does the Intake manifold have a plenum gasket??

I know with Dodges, the engines have this damn Plenum gasket that is made of something like notebook paper. The fix is to replace the steel plenum pan with an aluminum one. I honestly have no idea yet what the lower intake on the 5.0 looks like yet.

I need to get a FSM and a Haynes and start reading up.

no^^^^^ nothing like that it's just a normal gasket but they generally aren't problem areas... oil in the intake is normal as the pcv system vents from the lower intake into the upper so there will be a little where the port is tapped off a few runners

alright,

ive replaced everthing....

new fuel filter, new MAP/BAP, new egrvalve and sensor, coolant temp sensor, air filter, im getting a IAC soon in the mail. The TPS looks cracked a little.

i looked in the upper intake, and there is a bunch of carbon built up on the 4 rear runners. the front are clean.....

anyways, the throttle body-egr spacer gasket was bad. when i pulled the throttle body off, there was a bunch nasty white build up, and I cleaned it off (im still trying to get the coolant holes unpluged)

well, i guess i will take it to a mechanic, but thats when i can afford one.

btw, how the hell do I get the egr spacer off of the upper intake?

thanks

most likely it is corroded on there and best bet is to soak the long bolts atound the holes with pb blaster and tap with a mallet and lightly try to pry it with a screwdriver

so what your saying is the bolts that hold on the throttlebody also hold on the egr spacer?
