Default will 185 heads fit on stock 302 pistons

Ihave a stock bottom end 95 5.0 and i have heard that if you run afr 185s you have to have the pistons notched for valve clearence. I was just wondering if that is the same for all 185 heads, i was thinking of trying the new patriot heads but cant find a set of 165s(dont think they make um). Thanks for your time

Has nothing to do with 185cc. It has to do with valve size, in most cases there will be interference between the (stock) piston and the intake valve when the intake is larger than 1.90".

You need to do a search on the Patriot heads and do some reading about them. I recommend staying away from them. Check around and you will find out why.

Ihave done some looking around and have heard nothingbut good about the ohv heads that patriot makes.I cant find much info on the5.0 heads because they are newer and not many people have tried them, also ifound the flow charts from them and the outflow all the trickflow heads on intake and exhaust and also outflow mostedelbrockheads(not sure which ones). but im interested in hearing what you opinion is on these heads. Thanks for the input i appreciate it.

The guy i bought it from said he put a mild cam in it but there is no lump at all and it idles exactly like a stock 302 so iguess i cant be sure of the cam until i pull it out. so if i have a bigger cam would there be more chance of clearance issues.

Hell, you couldn't have looked to hard, here read this this: http://http://bbs.hardcore50.com/vbu...ad.php?t=43122

This pretty much covers everything in one thread. Then deside.

you do understand anyone can make heads flow air by making the ports bigger its the small ports that flow big numbers that are a work of art. I wont get into air flow numbers under the curve and velocity flow. But if you look around on other sites and do some good reading you will see what I am talking of. Don't forget we don't race Dyno's or Airflow benches we race cars. Just cuz it flows more air don't make it faster. Don't forget you get what you pay for most of the time and cheaper is not always better. not that the most expensive parts are always best either. And No I dont think the 185s will bolt to the motor with out cutting to the pistons. But the 165 will. and the Trick Flow TW will. if you keep lift and duration down some. But you should check piston to valve clearance on all motors

if you are using a stock cam 185's will clear with the 2.02.. but ptv in any and all cases should be checked

thats a waste, you dont need 185s on a 302 with a very mild cam.
