Need help with 302 swap questions, please.
I recently bought a 4 cyl Mustang which i plan on putting a 302 in. I have the 302 already, nothing special, 2 bbl carb. I'm not looking to put up big numbers off the bat, but maybe some day. The motor currently is probably only putting out about 180 HP. I plan on staying carb'd, i don't plan on fuel injecting. Budget is my main concern at the moment. I have heard some ppl mention that i can use the T-5 that is currently on the 4 cyl if i get a certain pilot bearing. What bearing would that be and where would i get it? Jegs sells an upgrade/rebuild kit for the T-5 and i'm wondering if that would enable the 4 cyl T-5 to handle more power? I plan on upgrading to an 8.8" rear as soon as i can as well. Is there anything I haven't thought of yet that anyone can think of? I'm assuming I will be able to attach a clutch to the 302 and mate it up to the T5 that is in there already and get by for now until i can afford to pick up a V8 T5. If i put that Jegs kit in the T5 will i still need to get a V8 T5 or will that be enough? I don't have the cash to do everything at once, that is why i'm trying to do it in stages. When its all done i don't expect to be pushing more than 275-300 HP out of this engine. I don't plan on drag racing it, just daily driver stuff. Any help will be appreciated.

well im sorry i didnt read half thsat paragraph since it wasnt spaced out i kept losing my spot..ahaha add, but uhh idk about the 4cyl t-5..i no the v8 wasnt puttin out much more hp than a 4cyl..but the torque is the big one in the v8's....i wouldnt trust ur 4cyl t-5, one clutch dump and dont be surprised if it blows its guts, look for a v8 t-5 and rebuuild it unless its mint....good luck with the swap tho, just change the motor mounts and maybe the k memebr i think, should be relatively easy

180 hp with 2 barrell...I don't thinks so!! 120-140 maybe......do yourself a favor and at least put a 4 barrel on it!!...as for the 4cyl t-5 you can use it and it will hold up fine.. there is no build it to v-8 spec as the cluster gear and main shaft are all different ratios so there is no one thing to do to it cheap to upgrade it to t-5 v-8 spec..just use it as is and get the small pilot bearing

wish I could help there.. but I forgot!! it's been a few years since I did the swap..but google it and it may come up under 4cyl conversion to 5.0
