Default rod balancing

currently im saving to build a 306 for my fox but i want to get everything figured out before i start. im planning on using scat rods and summit states that they are weight matched and balanced. imhaving a machine shop balance everything together but will they charge me for balancing the rods even if its not needed? or do they charge the same with or without the rods. just a bit of curiosity. still planning on having them do it anyway.

it's a good idea to take your whole rotating assembley to the machine shop ..irregardless of what the box or summit says....you just never know how accurate the rod weighing was..and if they balance your assembley make sure that they don't remove weight from the flywheel or balancer that they remove it from the crank...cause if your flywheel takes a dump then your up a creek!!

crank/flywheel/balancer together.... rods are done separate, and pistons are done separate

usually, well atleast if done right, the flywheel will either just be 0 balanced, or it and the balancer will stay normal, and the crank will be worked

Here is the process:

Weigh the big end of the rods
weigh the small end of the rods
Take lightest weight of big and small and match the rest
Weigh the pistons individually, take the lightest again and match
Weigh the ring pack
Weigh the locks if used
Weigh the rod bearing
Do your math and make the bob weights
Attach bob weights to crank
Spin crank and this will tell you how much weight needs to be removed from the front and rear crank counterweights
On a 28 or 50 external balance, you use the flywheel/flex and balancer attached to the crank

well now i got another question thats kind of off topic but not really. if i have them balance the pressure plate with everything else, and my clutch goes out, do i need to take the new pressure plate back to them to get balanced? is it even necessary to get the pressure plate balanced on an estimated 275hp street motor?

yup, i've seen it done 100 times and done pistons and rods myself. never spun one up and drilled on the crank though.
