I just started looking for a new suspension setup for may 83 gt and all of the struts that I have found have been for 87-93. Can someone tell me what the difference is and give me some advice at what I can do.

some struts are differnet where it bolt it the bottom > 2 hole ,i think the 83s had a thinner strut, go there and look atthe strut, they should have 4 shims in the box, if so they will work just buy the shims on both sides of the strut before putting the bolt in, mine was like that.btw i dont think my lakewoods came with them, its the ones from parts houses like stock gas struts have ussally have the shims in the box.
the new strut will be wider at the mounting point, the shims will take up the slack.

Monroe can sell you the new shims as well as new bolts/nuts to mount the new struts with........
