Just an update. My clutch pedal had too much play so I tightened the clutch cable and all is good.

Good to hear your problem had an easy solution Fairlee. Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear responses are heard and helpful.

As for the last few replies about synchronized reverse. Technically it's a brake on reverse. You still must be at a complete stop to engage reverse.
I have a Dodge Ram with a 5 speed. It has a synchronized reverse. I can engage it while slowly rolling forward without any crashing. I can also engage reverse while rolling backward at any speed, slips right in, just like a forward gear.
