fuel system problems
Ok guys so im driving home get to a stop sighn and the car just dies and dosnt start back up!! I just put 5 gallons of gas in it so running out of gas was quickly elminated as the problem. The only hunch I have on this is that its the fuel pump because normally when I turn the key to just the ignition position you can hear the fuel pump prime the engine and of course the noise is gone. So I was wondering how hard it is to swap out the fuel pump and if there was more than one pump or is there only the pump in the tank. Also my gas gauge has been broken for years and I was wondering what the typical problem whould be with the guage and how to fix it. Thanks and btw its a 89 mustang gt 5.0 pretty much stock thanks guys!!

RE: fuel system problems
There is only one pump which is in the tank. Your gauge problem is probably the sending unit which is also on the tank. So dropping the tank isn't a whole lot of fun but is pretty straight forward. If you have mods in your future you might look at putting a larger fuel pump in....there are several different pump sizes depending on your plans.
