Is it worth what? Not sure exactly what your asking. If you plan on using stock block the 302 is it. A 306 is just abored .030 over 302. If it is a 306 it could have been a recent rebuild since you have to use different pistons. Are you wanting carb or efi? The 88 will be SD if it is an efi, which will be fine, alot of people here run them. There is one exception, if it is a later model 88 it could be a ma system that was built for california emmisions. I like the late 80's mainly for the tilt wheel, but most importantly you want a car that has a solid body with the floor pans, trunk floor and suspension being solid, torque boxe's not ripped and a straight frame.

If its going to be a track car project buy a 4cyl. and convert. If those cars you stated above are 5.0's then that isn't a bad price so long as they aren't ragged. As far as the years...I prefer 89-92 personally for the forged pistons and mass air(also on the california 88's as stated above). Thats if you are going to use the stock motor. If you are going all out drag car and building an engine then it doesn't really matter. I also prefer the LX coupe body style because its weight, but again if you are going to gut it and lighten it, it wont really matter what trim you get. Keep in mind the convertibles are heavier, and if you run fast you will need a roll bar/cage at higher ET's then a car with a hardtop. Fastblack said it best above...thoroughly inspect the car specifically suspension and frame. Good luck and congradulations on your choice to race the best bang for the buck drag car ever....imo of coarse.
