okay, well my g/f's looking to sell her bronco and is planning on buying a fox, looking at a 5.0 87 lx auto, just had a few questions on that year, its white which i like but has that god awful red interior

what kind of auto came in the 87's, aod?

what are some weak points on these transmissions,

and how am i in the clear with the speed density system as long as i stick to bolt ons?

Aod was stock... just service the trans and don't run the **** out of it if you add gears I'd add an extra cooler to keep heat down and as for SD you can change heads and picking the right cam is key and mild intake and exhaust mods are fine......keeping rwhp around 270 as 19lbs inj will be close to max duty cycle and at that point you'd wanna upgrade to 24's but in a sd car you'd need and sd tuner to make the alteration in the ecm's fuel mapping

even though the crate motor says 345 that's at the flywheel you'll probably be closer to rwhp and the stock injectors max out the duty cycle at or around 300.. a safe bet is to add 24's but if your sticking with the stock 19's better have it run on a dyno for tune purposes to see where a/f is atWOT throughout the rpm range

what are some weak points on these transmissions
every part of it...they need more gearing whether rear or trans + 3000 stall min, and an oil cooler

the od band is too small, they shift too low rpm's, they starve oil and causes low life under any performance. not sure whether to keep going...i bought a '90 brand new and was on my 3rd b4 selling it at 6 years old, $2000/pop for rebuild and it was never quicker than 13's
AOD = boat anchor (and an expensive one) plan on keeping ? just go lentech

don't sweat speed density at all....even w/ HCI....very overrated

back in the day...homies ran 12's on it...no probs , if it runs ok now (check out cold start hot start conditions etc) it will run fine after mods
