why would new parts (upgrades) affect the way the car ran. maybe alternater is hooked up wrng? but then the car wouldn't have started the first time after i installed the new parts? also when cranking -oil pressure gauge fluctuates -but car doesn't start.

Make sure you pushed the wires to the alternator in all the way. I replaced the alternator on my brothers car and the battery light would keep going on and all the crap would happen, then when I went to check it out I found out that I didn't push the wires all the way in where they should be, and then it worked fine. Good luck finding the problem.<edited><editID>harvey041</editID><editDate>37906.9872685185</editDate></edited>

Ford alternators also have a bad problem with the alternator plugs, parts stores even stock them for a few bucks. If that was your problem then you have a dead battery too. An unhooked or bad alternator would only cause charging problems, and thats what it sounds like happened, your battery just went dead from not being charged. Put a charger on the battery, take it up to a parts store, and have them put it on a tester, or test yourself with a voltmeter. Look for 14 or so volts on the battery with the car running.
