g/f brought a 5.0, its an 1987 automatic, 120,000 miles for 2 grand... have a few questions about problems we cazme across


sometimes, and i mean there seems to be no system to this, a little over 3,000 rpms it backfires, changed the plugs, which look like a caveman gapped them, still doing it
could this be caused by timming, or bad gas?? dont have a timming gun, and none of the part stores round here have a loner

its a 1987 white lx automatic, nice looking car, overall 7.5/10 id give it, i'll have pix up when the sun shines

depends.. timing could cause it..also if the thermactor air system is malfunctioning/ on the tube that runs from head to head there is a check valve on the end known as the anti-backfire gulp valve.. mine went bad once and it would shoot blue flames out the tailpipe on decel[:@]

i wish my car shot blue flames

my car backfires when cold, i think its due to running too rich, even tho my shortband o2 says it runs lean.
but when you stand behind the exhaust it smells like straight gas, and i get about 10mpg, so its deff rich.
i dont really care about this motor tho so i didnt bother to try and figure out whats wrong with it.

if a caveman gapped your plugs, I bet he crossed the spark plug wires too

apparently gapping spark plugs isnt so easy a caveman can do it

i just assumed it was cause it was cold
