Starter relay/solenoid wiring question.

Starter relay/solenoid wiring question.
I don't have a multimeter or test light at home to check it, but I think my clutch safety switch took a dump. I just put in a new starter solenoid ( on the fender) and I'm getting power to everything, but it won't crank at all. Can I put 12volts to the post for the clutch switch on the solenoid and see if it'll crank?
How hard's it to replace the clutch switch?

RE: Starter relay/solenoid wiring question.
you need to check the little wire that goes out to the selonoid from ignition switch and hold in crank position and see if test light lites up..if not prob is either in clutch switch and or ignition switch..all you have to do is unplug connector from clutch switch and jump connector if switch is bad......if you have current out to the selonoid prob is either in connections or starter if selonoid is new and in working order

I don't have a test light here and would rather not run back out for one. Can I just put 12volts to the post on the relay where the clutch switch connects and see if it'll crank over?

well it's either my starter, or the power wire is corroded and not lettin power through anymore. I don't have my multimeter here so I can't check conitnuity though. I'll have to grab it tomorrow and find out.

RE: Starter relay/solenoid wiring question.
apply 12 volts directly to starter wire......without a test light just cause you hit 12 volts to engaugement /switched 12 v wire in crank doesn't mean starter is bad....you should of heard the selonoid click and or you could still have a bad ground issue
