Default C4's I Have All 3 Gears But.....

I finally got my car going fast enough (no plates so I am driving around the neighborhood) to get it to shift into 3rd (C4-C5). What mph does your guys c4's usually shift into 3rd finnally? My speedo cable is screwed but by my tach I was doing about 40 mph. And when I come to a stop sometimes it doesn't shift into 1st on its own. Is that normal? I have been tweeking with the tranny here and there and getting things to work.

early or late shifts can be a result of a defective vaccum modulator on the c-4 and kickdown function needs to be hooked up to kick down gears based on throttle pressure

Yea, I connected the kickdown the other night and it works when I mash the throttle but I did a little adjusting on it after I drove the car earlier. I also adjusted the bands to spec and 1-2 shift isnow smoother and the 2-3 is alsonice and smooth (when it does shift).I swapped the modulator of my other c4 I have bc the one on the c5 was leaking because the diaphram was screwed. The one I put on had the dual diaphram. The tranny is from 77 comet with a v6. I am gonna go geta new one sometime next week probably.

I don't know if I would consider 3rd that late of a shift though. It was about 2300-2700 rpms but like I said I really can't get going that fast with no plates. I don't wanna **** of the neighbors when I just moved into the area. I have slowly been having to add fluid as it warmed up and started filling everything up. I get my new balancer in tomorrow so I can make sure my timing is where it needs to be finally and I can get rid of the vibrationat idle. Then I can finally take my car in the upper RPM's without a second thought .

so are you using a c-4 or c-5?? reason I ask is my bronco II has a c-5 and I will be performing a 302 swap into it in the near future and all you have to do is change torque convertors and bellhousings and they reccommend using a c-4 valve body but I may keep it the same

The valve bodies in the c4 and c5 are the same from what I have read. It has a c5 right now and I will be putting in a c4. When swapping from the c5 to c4 you have to make sure you have the right flexplate also. C5's use a 164 tooth flexplate while c4's use either a 164 or a 157 tooth flexplate depending on the bellhousing and the torque converter bolt pattern. One has a 10.5 inch and I believe the large bell uses a 11.5 inch pattern. Stock setups used the small bells on v6's in the 70's and in the early 80's they put in the c5 for a few years like my 83 had.

I am wanting to put in a shift kit before I drop in the c4 so I will be changing my valve body anyway. When I did pull it out to clean out the inside from it sitting outside I pulled apart the valve body to make sure it was clean and one check ball came out and I am not sure if I got it in the right spot [&:]. I guess I will find out when I go to drive it huh lol.

But still my question, at what mph do your guys c4's shift into 3rd when cruising??????????????

Thanks. Do you sell the adjustables on your site? How much are they? I don't have time to surf your site tonight but it is in my favorites. Nice to know someone on here is close to home[8D]. But from a stock standpoint is what I was wondering with the shift point. Nice to know my tranny isn't too bad worn out.
