Thats a little low. You want at least 5 but my mechanical runs at a constang 7psi. My 600 is only set out about 3/4 of a turn but that was after I brought down the jets and stuff.

I wouldn't trust a cheap gauge...when I switched to a autometer cowl gauge it said my preasure was set at 6 1/4 psi where the cheap gauge read 5.5 ...and as for the holley red being noisey... the blue is no quieter..it's a holley trait on their red , blue and black pumps[&:]

Go thru and double check the float adjustments andchoke adjustments. Running the PVC in the front shouldn't makea difference. I hooked mine upto help lower my crankcase pressure and really didn't noticea difference in the plugs. But I did that around the time that I set the idle/air mix and drove the car for the first time so IDK if that really had anything to do with it. If you don't have one already order up the carb tuning kit for the eddy and go thru its manual. It comes with 3 different sets of jets, rods, and springs to help dial in what you have and it also comes with tables to show you what will do what in the combo. You can also order individual packs of jets and rods from summit to help you along also.

As for the gauge IDK if I would trust it either. I have one of those cheapo inline gauges fromt the part store for cheap because I was running off a stock EFI pump when I first got my baby running. When I first put the mechanical pump on it was pushing like 10psi and now it dropped down to 7. I doubt the pump was doing that but hey maybe it was. I didn't have a problem with it.

What plugs, plug gapand ignition setup are you using. What are the mods to your motor? Year? Give some more info for us to help

ORIGINAL: mjr46

you need to do is tune the curve and the rate........total advance should be no more than about 36 degrees
There is nothing wrong with having more that 36 deg of ignition timing.

36 is a good setting for full mechanical advance but vacuum advance PLUS mechanical advance into the 40's or even 50's is ok. Great for idle quality and mileage.

As for running bad with the advance plugged in. The rotor is going out of phase with the distributor cap. Drill a hole in the cap so you can watch the rotor with a timing light. The rotor should be aligned with the tower when the light flashes.
