He threw up a peace sign so it was all good. I need your guy's help to see where I should start. I daily drive this car and I just want 60-70 more horsepower.. Thanx in advance.

most people here will tell you to go h/c/i,
but if you're not knowledgeable in this area it'll be tough gettin 70 hp.
you're lookin at alot
or if money aint an object, h/c/i + boost.

my advice, take your time with it and do it right the first time whatever you decide to do. intake/exhaust would be your best start. imo

What is " h/c/i " ? Best HP for dollar is a NOS set up. 50 to 150 HP for about $550.00.

Thanks for the quick replies. I think I'm gonna take my time and start off with intake and exhaust. I want a mean sounding exhaust, what combo should I do? x or h pipes, what's the difference between shorty, longtubes, equal, un equal? I'm new to the 50 scene and I want to do things right. I was into imports before I picked up the 50. Haha!

If your new to the five ohh scene set yourself up with unequal shorties (equal are said to provide better flow but are a pain in the **** to install over unequal and I've heardequal could end up rubbing against some wiresand melting some of them)an X-pipe (forbetter flow) the difference is the H pipe gives a much more louder bark like an american muscle car and an Xpipe gives better flow anda betterexhaust toneand some type of dumps out the back. The long tube headers will have better HP gains but the shorties sound alot meaner and are much easier to install yourself (if that's the way your going). A real common bolt on besides exhuast you should do to pump out more HP is a cold air intake. I have flowmaster dumps and a CAI and I can take any stock 4.6L GT, infact a few weekends ago on a saturday night I was sitting at a light next to a 4.6 GT and he waved me off and gave me the win hands down. Now thats respect for a 5.0

it'll sound really good...but where are you gonna get the next 50 hp for your total of +60 over stock ?

the 2 best bang-for-the-buck mods are nitrous and gears...period

check your door tag, probably code m under "ax"
m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27 (aod cars only)

after you get 4.10 gears, get a sticky tire like a mickey thompson et srteet radial....then your car will be like you added 100 hp......it will truly quicken it up by a full second

but forst, go w/ the free stuff...timing at 12* , tps check (.990v w/ key on / engine off "KOEO") air filter, fuel filter, plugs/cap/rotor/wires

remove the silencer if it still has one, make sure the tb opens all the way w/ someone pressing on the pedal, some cars need shimming so it's like your not pressing it all the way.

thats about it....but truly an intake swap on stock heads and cam is worth 5 hp roughly....the stock intake will support 300 hp no problems. the exhaust won't do anything either...but sound much much better.

i like my MAC setup.....mac lt headers 1 5/8" , MAC 2 1/2" prochamber, mac catback 2 1/2"

These guys have all put up some good advice. I figure I'll comment on the race though [8D]

96 GT 4.6L put out roughly the same hp as the 5.0s, plus you have a weight advantage.Stock for stock it should be close, but I think you would have a slight advantage. Either he wasn't stock (sounds like the case here) or you need to practice driving some more (maybe, but I can't say for sure ).
