RE: almost got killed.. need help
I got a "death" shifter in mine. No lockout or anything. Just a cable to the tranny and a button on top. How did you hit reverse anyway? You must've been really hammering the shifter. I pegged neutral one time in mine when I was racing but only because I was really drunk, and quickly slammed it back. (I won the race too.) I think maybe you just need to get accustomed to the shifter. I'm sure once you get the hang of it you won't have anymore dangerous mistakes like that.

As far as I know all shifters have a lock out for reverse. It's a safety feature. My guess was operator error. I think you shoulda taken a lil time to get to know it's function before hammering it. JMO though.

I hit reverse in my old cherokee a few times, i was coming down a mountain and it kept stalling, I had to switch between neutral and drive a bunch of times. Twice I hit reverse, first time it locked up and stalled, second time it locked up but i got in in neutral fast enough.
