The threads onmy block where a spark plug goes are worn out slightly, and the plug can be wiggled lose. Does anyone know of a easy fix for this...or am I in for a treat?

Thanks for the help.

Easy depends where it is on the engine. If its in the back it is more difficult but autopart shops sell a helicoil set for such a problem. Neverdone a sparkplug with a helicoil myself but have used on intakes and exhaust manifolds.

It involves drilling out the remaining threads and tapping a larger thread for a helicoil insert to thread in, once in you break the retainer and it is there for good or so they say, then your spark plug threads into it.

I assume your threads are in pretty bad shape but you also be able to tap the existing threads to get few miles down the road.

Heres a link I found real quick for helicoil sets but like I said they have them at most autoparts places.

EDIT: Talked to a buddy and he mentioned just replacing the head, so there you go

It's the left/front that has the problem...I'll look into the helicoil route, sounds pretty painless.

Thanks for the help.

Hope it works out for you, let us know. You probably should bring that cylinder to TDC to make sure and filings can be vacuumed or removed easily unless their kitincludes a way to capturethem better.

I'm sorry if this offends, but this may be the worst advice I have seen on this site [&:]
Metal will F up a motor real fast.

Don't helicoil with the head on the motor [:'(]

In order to properly drill the plug hole, you want to pull the head.

Metal shavings don't belong in the CC... [&o]

Doesnt offend me, I have never used the kit only seen it sold. I do think everyone knows metal in the chamber is not good. I am sure the kit has a system setup to either prevent it or instructions to remove the head...... but again if you never had this issue so do with it what you will.

sounds like you have never worked o the infamous Ford 5.4. I heli-coil those things all the time

it would be very wise of you to NOT try to helicoil the head ON the motor... take it off to fix it.

Advance Autoparts sells the tap and thread replacement kit.
