Default Tranny problems ?

I have 91 gt and I'm woundering if my clutch is going or is it something else.here is problem with the clutch all the way down its kinda difficult to get it into gear and once moving its not smooth going from gear to gear also when i try to go into reverse i have to put it in a different gear first or it will grind. One more thing I have even called ford dealers around here and they don't know what kind of tranny fluid goes in there gear oil or ATF I've been told ATF but that doesn't make sense???????????

Wil manuel gear oil hurt it? Cause thats what I have in mine....I have had it for like 3000 miles (since rebuild) and it is just hard to get into gear and stuff when it is early in the morning...when it is all warmed up it shifts like a champ.

i will assure you it will explode with time , i have seen other from other manufactured car when i worked in dealers. i would put atf in there as soon as possible , more than likely (hopefully ) it hasent had and detremental damage yet. but your prob can also be a missadjusted clutch, possibly . change your fluid asap . with the most recent dex/mercon which is in the stores . need about 3 quarts, buy six , do a drain and fill , run it for bout 500 miles or so and change it again . imo

your grinding and having difficulty with shifts because you have the wrong fluid in there. That fluid is not gonna do much protection either. Its possible that if you change fluid now, it may go back to doing what it should, or it may stay the same if it is damaged now.

I just changed the trans fluid to ATF and it shifts alot better. It does not feel anything like it did before, so lets hope there is no damage ....mlb I used valvoline ATF with the dex/mercon...it was like 3 bucks a quart and works great
